While in Rajagaha on business, the wealthy banker Anathapindika from Savatthi went to visit his brother-in-law, whom he found so preoccupied with arranging a feast that he failed to welcome Anathapindika in his usual manner. Asked what the big occasion was, the brother-in-law replied that he was preparing a meal for Buddha and his monks. When Anathapindika heard the word Buddha, he was filled with such joy that he wanted to go and see him immediately. The next morning, he set out before dawn. This painting, depicting Anathapindika meeting Buddha is from the modern Sri Lankan temple in Savatthi.
