Dhammapada Karuta

This game is based on a traditional Japanese game, "Karuta," which is drawn from a collection of 100 poems, Hyakunin Isshu. This version contains 64 cards. On each card is printed the second part of a Dammapada verse. These cards are spread randomly on a table. From a master list, the teacher reads the first part on one of the verses, and the students search for the second half, reading aloud their guesses. The teacher repeats the first part until the correct second part is found. The player who finds the correct card keeps that card and gains one point. Before continuing to the next verse, the teacher repeats the first part again, and all the students read the second part. Play continues until all the verses have been completed.
