Prison Action

Buddhist Relief Mission continues to support Buddhist groups and to correspond with individual inmates in prisons throughout the US.

In 2002 we attended a meeting of the Michigan DOC Prison Chaplaincy Advisory Council and toured a newly opened facility. The results of a questionnaire to the chaplains in all Michigan prisons have been shared with other engaged Buddhist and prison advocacy groups. From it, we have received many requests for images, Dhamma books, videos, postcards and cassette tapes, which we're seeking to fill.

BRM has also been asked to arrange for volunteers to encourage Buddhist groups in their regular study and meditation sessions. If you would be interested in getting involved and willing to go through the clearance process, please contact us for information about a group near you.

Recently a newly released prisoner has joined Students of the Lotus for regular meditation--a step we hope will be of benefit to him in making the transition back into the community.

BRM would also gladly receive any Dhamma books that you no longer need, to be placed in a prison library. Remember that the gift of the Dhamma excels all other gifts.

The need has never been greater. Please help!
