Visakha's Birthday

Ven. Kim Cang (Vajiro) is the abbot of a monastery in Mechanicsville, Virginia. We first met him many years ago in Panat Nikhom Refugee Transit Center in Thailand. To celebrate Visakha's sixty-first birthday, we invited him to come to Flint and to stay for a few days. While he was here, we visited the Lao Monastery in Detroit on Sunday and meditated every morning and evening. It was a wonderful retreat. On the day itself, the monks came from Detroit, and we took an outing to the For-Mar Nature Preserve.

What better way to celebrate a birthday than to offer lunch to four monks from four different ethnic groups--Khmer Krom, Lao, Burmese, and Bangladeshi--and then to go hiking through a beautiful forest!
